The Origin of the Eppich Surname

Eppich

It appears from family records that the surname Eppich was changed from the name Ewig in the 1700s probably in the area of Schweinsberg, Prussia. My husband, Kevin, recognized the word ewig from his LDS mission to Germany as meaning eternal, forever or eternity. Ewig is pronouced ā·vch. [That is the best I could tell anyway.]

Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf [now president] told a wonderful story about the conversion of his family to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Zwickau, East Germany in the October 2004 General Conference. His maternal grandmother was asked by a Sister Ewig to attend LDS church services with her. Later, the whole family joined because of this invitation.

Elder Uchtdorf authored  a book entitled Sister Eternal which explains the conversion of his family. I don't know if we could possibly have any relation to this Sister Ewig, but it is a nice thought.
